FISHING CLUB

May Newsletter

June 24, 2004

We welcomed our guest, Capt. Dave Hopp, who joined our club.

We had nine members present.

Business

We have no speaker tonight as the gentlemen had to attend to a Power Squadron situation. They will be here in June.

Our financial situation remains stable. We have added one new member who made their donation for the social fund and we paid Joe Paul for expenses he incurred at the last social.

We had a lengthy discussion on meeting attendance. We relocated to Cleveland Heights in January and changed to Monday nights in an effort to see if we could improve attendance. It has not been a successful move relative to attendance, and it’s time to re-evaluate. We developed a series of questions for our members which you will find at the end of this newsletter. We would appreciate a response either at our next meeting, or via E mail or telephone to Ron.

Sad news received about the death of Tim Ball’s mother.

Ron is planning a houseboat trip for November. Tentative dates are November 12 through November 21. Plan is to rent a houseboat in Naples and run it down to either First Bay or Broad River Bay. Trip down on Friday the twelth and return on Sunday the twenty first. The boat will sleep six. Club members are invited to spend time on the boat by bringing their own boats to its location. All food, drinks, linens, etc. will be furnished. The daily cost has not been developed yet, but an estimate is $100 per day per person for food and lodging. Four members indicated an interest.

We are trying to determine how many folks we actually have who want to be in the club. We set ourselves up to be a social and a learning group. We try to schedule fishing trips and have a hard time finding interested members. It’s difficult to get speakers for meetings with no idea how many members may attend. In addition, we need to get a feel for numbers at our social events. Our roster has a total of 50 names. This is the basic list that receives the newsletter, either by E mail or hard copy. If we have not heard from you by the first of August, we will assume you no longer care to be a member and will remove your name. Thank you!

Our next meeting will be on Monday, June 28, 2004, at Cleveland Heights Country Club at 1930 hours. Our guest speakers will be Dick Littrell and Harold Barker from the Lakeland Sail and Power Squadron talking about chart basics and the United States Sail and Power Squadrons. Many of you have indicated a real lack of understanding of charts and their use, so this should be a good meeting. Let’s have a great showing.
